Food & Beverage Server

Position Summary: 
The Full-Time Food & Beverage Server reports to the Restaurant and Events Manager and is responsible for assisting with the overall operation of the Food and Beverage Unit (Schooners Bar & Grill and other Outlets as required) in accordance with local health regulations and guidelines, and as may be directed by the Restaurant and Events Manager, to assure that the highest degree of product quality, customer experience and business performance is maintained at all times. The Food and Beverage department is a 7-days-per-week operation so the applicant will be required to work weekends, holidays, split shifts as needed, and on many occasions participate in the various tasks of the restaurant. In addition, the successful candidate will need to meet the following requirements:  

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a Food & Beverage Server and handling cash. Previous experience working in a tourism related environment is preferred.
  • Must have previous experience in operating a POS system like Aloha, Micros or similar software.
  • Basic understanding of food service and customer care is required.
  • Possession of a Food Handlers Certificate would be preferred.
  • Any relevant courses or diploma in Hospitality and Tourism is regarded highly but not mandatory.
  • A current valid Driver’s License will be an asset but is not mandatory.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Greet patrons, present menu to patrons, suggest food or beverage selections and answer questions regarding preparation and service and to take the order from patrons for food or beverage, writing order down or memorizing it.
  • Take orders and send them to kitchen staff through the POS system.
  • To serve meals or beverages to patrons in a friendly, professional, accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare and serve desert.
  • To observe patrons to respond to additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed or beverage consumed.
  • Prepare the bills for beverages and meals ordered, take the cash and make change, and then balance daily transactions.
  • Assist with inventory control as required on a daily/ weekly/ monthly basis.
  • Clean and clear the dining room tables.
  • Clean and arrange assigned station, including things such as linen, glassware, silverware and ensure condiments and sodas machines are consistently well stocked.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • To solve practical problems and to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Do all other tasks as required by manager/ supervisor Requirement –knowledge, skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to tell customers about specials.
  • Great listening and speaking skills for creating a great dining experience for customers.
  • Customer service skills.
  • A good stamina and ability to stand for long hours while serving customers.
  • Being a team player is essential.
  • Availability and ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays, events and outlet shifts as required by business operations.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • The employee must possess good communication skills in the English language, both verbal and written.
  • The employee must be able to multi task and work under high pressure situations.
  • The employee must be well groomed and presentable for their shift.
  • The employee must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Spanish and another second language skills are highly desirable but not required.

Responsibility for Financial/Materials:

  • This position requires limited responsibility for financial and/or material resources. The Crew Member will be provided with the necessary equipment needed for this role and will be held responsible for the equipment provided.

Performing the tasks and requirements of this role has a wide-ranging impact on operations, public image, employee engagement, customer reviews and satisfaction, repeat guests and overall success throughout the organization.

Complexity: 
This position requires a limited degree of reasoning and planning processes that are straightforward, repetitive and will involve different tasks that relate to the F&B Department. Creativity and observations will be needed in order to assess and/or provide the appropriate course of action for customers on a case by case basis to maintain quality customer service and upsell items when needed.

  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but fluctuates daily based on the level of guests in house at any given one time.

This facility offers a chance for the right individual to work in one of Cayman’s leading attractions. We are offering a competitive compensation and benefits package inclusive of 10 days’ vacation. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and starting salary will be in the range of Grade 2: KY $10.40 - 11.77 per hour.
