August 29, 2014….During August, the Cayman Turtle Centre: Island Wildlife Encounter played host to a group of participants in a Junior Lifeguarding Camp.
The Cayman Turtle Centre is the only establishment in the Cayman Islands to employ full-time, certified Lifeguards.
The camp participants spent a day with our Lifeguard team snorkeling in our saltwater lagoon and also shadowing some of our Lifeguards on the job. This gave the students an opportunity to see firsthand what a Lifeguard actually does.
As part of the camp, the young participants learned about several emergency and rescue topics, including:
* Causes and Prevention of Drowning
* General procedures for a water emergency
* Rescue at or near the surface of the water
* Rescue at the bottom of the pool - recovering and how to exit
* Primary assessments
The camp visit was coordinated by CTF Lifeguard Supervisor & Safety Officer Devorn Miller.
