This newest method of release at the Centre also occurs during the height of turtle breeding season. The Centre will collaborate with local dive companies – taking the hatchlings on a chartered boat out into deeper ocean waters, where we locate suitable patches of sargassum seaweed, and then get in the water and personally escort the hatchlings to the patch – which ensures safety and protection from predators as well as a ready food source for the hatchling turtles.
