Job Title:  Retail Salesclerk (Part-Time)

Status: Non-Exempt 

Department: Splash Gift Shop

Reports to: Retail Manager 

Grade: "Q”

Salary Range: CI $20,020.00 – CI $23,207.00 Per Annum

 

Position Summary: The Retail Salesclerk - Part-Time (RSC-PT) greets customers in the store or at checkout register and obtains or receives merchandise and processes various types of cash register transactions for those customers visiting the retail store. In addition, the RSC clean, Stocks shelves, counters, and/or tables with merchandise in accordance with established store standard.

 

General purpose:   Maintain Guest Services as per company standard.

 

Essential Duties and position responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.     

  • Each customer is consistently greeted in a friendly, helpful, and professional manner.
  • Recommends or suggests merchandise based on customer needs and desires. 

Maintain an awareness of all product information, merchandise promotions.

  • Assist in implementing floor moves, merchandising and display maintenance. 
  • Recommends or suggests merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
  • Suggestions are helpful, informative, friendly, and professional.
  • Answers customer’s questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise.
  • Answers are clear, complete, accurate, helpful, and timely.
  • Fits or assists customers in trying on merchandise.
  • Assistance provided is helpful and timely.
  • Ensure total price and discounts on merchandise purchased by customers are accurate and complete to determine the bill. 
  • Ensure all financial transactions are consistently processed correctly, accurate, timely and complete. 
  • Calculates and rings up special procedures correctly, such as sale items, returns, exchanges, refunds/voids, layaways, and gift certificates. 
  • All specials procedures are completed in an accurate, timely, helpful, and friendly manner. 
  • Processes all types of transactions, including cash, check, credit card, debit card, credit vouchers, and gift certificates.      Processes voids correctly or calls manager for assistance.
  • Wraps or bags merchandise for customers in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Assist in setting up advertising displays or arrange merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales. May ticket, arrange, or display merchandise to promote sales.
  • Ensure all promotional activities are affective, accurate, timely, and aesthetically appealing.
  • Maintains records related to sales. Removes and records amount of cash in register at end of shift and ensure all records are current, accurate, and complete.
  • Assist in stock Inventory to ensure levels are accurate, timely, and complete.
  • Clean shelves, counters, and tables. Keep the retail store clean and orderly.
  • Re-tags exchanged or returned merchandise and returns to proper merchandise position. Understands merchandise groupings.
  • Practices teamwork and cooperation with co-workers so work relationships are consistently solution-oriented, positive, helpful, clean and cooperative.
  • Seeks to continually improve related skills and knowledge to contribute to profitability and productivity. Learning is consistently productive, effective, and ongoing.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to process information/merchandise through computer system and PCS register system.
  • Ability to communicate with associates and guests.
  • Ability to read, count and write to accurately complete all documentation
  • Ability to freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, stock area, and register areas.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing 0-50 pounds. Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates. 

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 2 years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty above satisfactorily
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Second language, such as Spanish, will be an asset in locations where required.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    • Ability to add, Subtract, multiply and divide in all units’ of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amount such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables, in standardized situations.
  • Time management: The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Should possess good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting and networking with customers and suppliers.
  • Should be a team worker and be able to carry out all tasks and effectively manage time.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to sitting/standing for long periods in front of a computer and processing cash receipts. 

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are on a rotational schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM, or as per the required schedule according to the business needs (25 hours a week). The applicant will be required to work on holidays, weekends, split shifts as needed, and participate in various tasks on many occasions. 

Salary Grade/Range: Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is graded at Grade Q, with the salary prorated according to contracted part-time hours in line with the Labour Act and company policy.
